Seeing Yourself Through God's Eyes

It’s easy to see ourselves through the lens of others. From an early age, we absorb messages—spoken and unspoken—about who we are. Maybe you were the responsible one, the quiet one, or the overachiever. Maybe you were praised for your good grades or scolded for being too sensitive. Over time, these labels become our identity, shaping how we view ourselves.

Then there’s the influence of culture. Social media, beauty standards, workplace expectations—they all whisper (or shout), You need to be more. More successful. More attractive. More put-together.
But what if we’ve been looking in the wrong mirror? What if our true reflection isn’t found in the eyes of the world but in the way God sees us?
The Difference Between Our View and God’s View
We often measure our worth by our flaws, failures, and perceived shortcomings. We focus on what we lack, but God sees the whole picture. He sees who He created us to be—not just who we are in this moment.
Consider this: If you have a child, niece, or someone you love deeply, how do you see them? You don’t measure their worth by their achievements or appearance. You love them because they are your children, your niece or your husband. That’s how God sees you—only infinitely more.
How Would Your Life Change If You See Yourself as God Does?
Imagine walking through life with the confidence that you are deeply loved, fully known, and unconditionally accepted. No more striving for approval. No more shrinking in insecurity.
Instead of saying:
I am not good enough. → Say: I am fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14).
I am unlovable. → Say: I am loved with an everlasting love (Jeremiah 31:3).
I am a failure. → Say: God is working in me for His good purpose (Philippians 1:6).
When we align our self-view with God’s truth —we become free. Free from self-doubt, comparison, and the constant need to prove ourselves.
Journaling Prompt: A Letter from God to You
Take a moment to reflect:
What do you think God sees when He looks at you?
How does His love challenge the way you see yourself?
Then, write a letter as if God were speaking directly to you. Let it be a reminder of your true worth, not as the world defines it, but as God has declared it.
Final Thought: Choosing to See Clearly
The world’s mirror will always distort your reflection, but God’s truth never changes. Today, choose to see yourself through His eyes—beloved, worthy, and already enough.
